Post Trois

Webcomics!
Because I love good webcomics, I thought I would make a post about a few of my favorites.

Ctrl+Alt+Del!
Now Ctrl+Alt+Delete is one of the more popular webcomics these days, and it's also one of my favorites. It's a gaming webcomic, so if you like reading about games and like webcomics, you should like it too.

Schlock Mercenary
Schlock mercenary is a slightly less well-known webcomic about Schlock, a carbosilicate amorph type of alien, and the adventures of the mercenary company he decides to join. It's a daily webcomic (since early 2000), so there's plenty to read through. If you like sci-fi and webcomics, it's a must.

Questionable Content
Questionable Content is about an young indie guy, his friends, and their relationships. It's got a large library, the writing is pretty good, and it doesn't take that long for the art to get to a pretty nice level. I like it :P

Post Zwei

Okay, so my birthday was yesterday, and I think it may have been the best birthday yet. My beautiful girlfriend of over a year and a half, with the help of her father, made me a cake shaped like a red dragon from D&D. It was fantastic! I'll try to remember to post some pictures later, once I have access to them. Anyway, so my girlfriend came over for a few hours and gave me a beautiful little painting to put on my desk. We then went to go eat at Rib Crib, which was DELICIOUS as always. I had the Crib Club, and got a huge dessert the size of my face for free, on account of it being my birthday. Later, after leaving, I rented a few movies and watched them all. Inglorious Basterds was an odd one. I think I liked it, but I'll have to watch it again to be sure. The Invention of Lying was good, although definitely on the predictable side. The Informant was just hard to follow, but I think that that is probably because I was both extremely tired and doing online stuff at the time I watched it.

ANYWAY, here's the real post.

First Friday Art Walk
Now that the weather is warming up a bit, walking around in downtown Springfield for Art Walk is back on the list of fun things to do. Now, this isn't something I would want to do by myself, but I love going with friends and family. It's really fun, and there are just so many things to do! Pretty much every business that relies on the general public is open for business, including, but not limited to: Galleries, boutiques, restaurants, theaters, clubs, bars, the library, shops and studios. There's lots of live music, so bring some friends, bring some cash, and enjoy the culture of downtown Springfield at it's best!

P.S.- Flame is a wonderful place to try, especially the Red Room downstairs. During Happy Hour from 4-6 monday-saturday, they have specials on some amazingly delicious burgers or calamari starting at about $3.50. You won't be dissapointed. Here's a quote I found "Before I even moved to Springfield from Kansas City, I had people tell me about the Red Room. They said it was a must-see as far as Springfield's bar/lounges go and it definitely is. They have great ambiance, a full menu, extensive wine list, awesome martini selection, and the best bartenders in Springfield. I would highly recommend the Red Room for a nice quiet date or a night out with friends. You will not be disappointed."

First post

Hey there all! I've just had the urge to create a blog lately, so I thought I would follow through with it and make one. If I manage to keep up with this, then it will probably mostly be about things that I find neat or interesting in my life, be it a fantastic new hole-in-the-wall restaurant, neat event, a new technology that impresses me, or just a cool website.

I thought I would spearhead this by including a few things in my first posting.

1.The Aptera Car
Now, as a young male, I find cars to be interesting, and I find technology pretty cool too. This combines both! Simple, elegant, and battery powered, this car is pretty awesome. Have a link!

2.Pandora: Internet Radio at it's finest
Now, you've probably already heard of Pandora, but I love it and think it worthy of a mention. For those of you who haven't heard of it and haven't caught on yet, Pandora has nothing to do with a silly box rumored to be filled with all sorts of evil mumbo-jumbo. Pandora is a website that allows you to create as many online radio stations as you like, customized to your heart's content! If that alone doesn't sound interesting enough, let me run you through the process.

First, you create an account. Pretty simple stuff. Once you get through the process of creating an account, you create a station, based off of a genre, band, or song you really want to listen to. Then, Pandora finds other songs you might like based off of characteristics of the genre/band/song that you chose, using the Music Genome Project to it's full potential. Then all you have to do is listen! Do you really like the song it's playing? Click the thumbs up button! Don't ever want the song played again on that station? Click the thumbs down button, and you won't have to hear it anymore. Is there a song you like that's getting played a little too much for your enjoyment? No problem! You can enter the menu for that particular song and click the button that says "I'm tired of this song", and Pandora won't play it for you again for a month.
It's pretty excellent, and your first 40 hours each month are free.

Last, but not least: Casper's
I live in downtown Springfield, MO, and have just discovered something to make my tastebuds happy and my wallet less empty. Casper's! Casper's is a little hole-in-the-wall type of place here in downtown Springfield that you probably wouldn't notice if you drove by it, even if you were looking for it, unless you had already been there. Not much of a tourist attraction because of this, but that's okay. It's only open from Labor Day to Memorial day, and there's often a pretty long wait to get into the tiny restaurant during the lunch rush. Evidently this strategy has been working for them, because Casper's has been serving their delicious (that's an understatement) chili oriented meals for just over a century! Check it out!
